Why a Digital Plan is So Important

40% of all businesses do not have a digital marketing plan. Of the 60% that do, most of them only have a partial marketing plan and they usually don’t address all aspects to have a well defined plan. What makes this such a big deal is the amount of money that is wasted.

The problem is most businesses don’t know where to start. Ask any SEO company or marketing company and they are all to happy to recommend pay-per-click advertising (Google AdWords or Facebook Ads). Even worse is when the business owner themselves try to do digital advertising. The goal behind the marketing company’s recommendations? Make money based on a useless recommendation that you the owner don’t understand in the first place.

So before you, a business owner, decides to wonder down that rabbit hole of wasting money, you need to take a close look at what exactly it is you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re not sure, its worth spending some money with a marketing company who can help you figure that out. Please don’t go to Google and search for marketing companies; that is not the way to find one. Instead, do a search for your competitors. Find out what is working for them. Ask around and see who they are using and what they are doing for marketing. The truly successful ones will have worked with a marketing agency that sat down with them and mapped out a digital marketing plan.

Think of it this way. You’re looking to hire a contractor to build your house. You flip open the Yellow Pages, or in this day and age take to Google, and serach for contractors. Odds are you’ll find at least a dozen or so in your area ranging in price from extremely cheap to outrageously expensive. Here’s the catch though, almost all of the cheap ones, most of the middle priced one and even some of the most expensive all have one thing in common: they’re going to build your house without any blueprints. Sounds kind of alarming doesn’t it? If you wouldn’t hire a contractor to build your house without blueprints, why would you attempt digital marketing or hire a marketing agency without having a digital marketing plan in place first?

To give you an idea of how difficult it is to find a quality marketing agency, in the Traverse City area (that’s where we are from), there are 74 marketing agencies within a 25 mile radius. Of those 74 agencies, there are only 3 (including us) that will take the time to lay out a digital marketing plan. If the stats are this scary for a small town in Northern Michigan, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to find a proper marketing agency in a large town.

I am trying to stress the importance of this because I would hate to see you waste another dollar on say digital ads when something else would be more effective for you. The trick is having that digital plan in place prior to and marketing efforts what so ever. If nothing else, it will prevent you from throwing money away on marketing efforts that will never have any return on your investment.

When establishing a digital marketing plan, there are several considerations which you must think about to ensure the utmost success. These factors include your targeted audience, your sales area, that is the area you hope to sell your product or service to, the product itself and how it relates to your targeted audience, your competition, and your end goals. Every complete digital marketing plan that we have put together takes all of those into account plus additional metrics before we ever recommend any form of digital marketing. After all, if we don’t have a roadmap of where to go with marketing, how are we supposed to market your business properly and effectively.

If the marketing agency you are working with doesn’t offer you a digital marketing plan or puts one together for you in a couple of hours, you owe it to yourself to find a better company to work with. Quite frankly this is the most important step in any digital marketing effort, kinda like the foundation of the house you’re trying to build. If you don’t use a foundation or build one of questionable materials, what’s going to happen to the house? Its going to collapse isn’t it? The same is true for you digital marketing plan. If you start off with a solid plan, your marketing efforts will not only be effective, but will stand up to the test of time. Not to mention you’ll likely outdo your competitors.

To give you some insights into the process, our digital marketing plans typically take between 7 and 10 business days to complete. They include a full analysis of your target audience, in depth review of your business, the products or services you’re selling, and a close look at your competition. We meet with our clients on average 2 or 3 times during this process so that we can gain a full understanding of what your business is all about. We take in as much information as we can before we even recommend a single thing. Once complete, we present a clear plan and recommendation to move forawrd with.

We don’t gaurantee first page Google results because no company can do that. Instead we have a proven track record of increasing your return on investment as much as 900% and we have been consistent, client after client in our approach. Course you don’t have to take our word for it. Simply look at your books to see how much money you’re throwing down the drain. When you’re ready to make the proper investment into your business, give us a call. We’re happy to help your business succeed.
